Internet Advertising
Internet advertising is getting bigger and bigger. As more people now have access to the internet, many companies can now advertise their products online within targeted websites.
Many companies would previously have advertised on television due to there being a small amount of channels at the time. Therefore advertising on television would have reached a wider audience. Since the advent of satellite and cable channels though, hundreds of channels are now available to watch, which has diluted the viewing figures for each television channel.
Smaller companies may now use the internet as they can now target a specific audience, rather than advertising on television where it is a little more generic. Television still works for bigger companies like Coca Cola, but for smaller companies they can use search engines such as Google, Yahoo or MSN to target websites which are more relevant to their own line of work.
Recent figures in the United Kingdom have shown that internet advertising revenue is now more than television advertising for the first time in history. This indicated that companies are now prepared to move their advertising campaigns onto the internet, as it is currently cheaper than television and it reaches a more specific audience. The advertiser can also keep an exact track of how much traffic goes to their website via the adverts they place, which you can't track when advertising on television.
